Black painted metal A.R.P hand lamp with a metal carrying handle and a circular rotating switch on the top. There is a large wedge-shaped hood on the front that covers the bulb and directs the light downwards and a belt clip on the back.

This 1939-dated hand torch / lamp is the standard issue lamp given to ARP wardens in the early part of the war. The rear has a belt attachment and the top has a carry handle (the lid can still be raised to access the spare bulb located inside).

ARP Paraffin lamp, supplied by the Ministry of Supply for ARP/Civil Defence use. There were about 3 different types of lamp, this one was designed to cast a red glow on the ground which would be invisible from the air, but which indicated an air raid shelter entrance in the blackout.

Measures approx 9.5cms tall (excluding the knob on the top) x 7cms wide x 8cms deep (including hood). Condition – a bit battered and rusty, handle all ok, bulb, wiring, battery missing.
