The Bell AH-1Z Viper is an attack helicopter derived from the earlier Bell AH-1 SuperCobra. When contrasted against its predecessor, it incorporates various improvements and advances, including new rotor technology, upgraded military avionics, updated weapons systems, and electro-optical sensors in an integrated weapons platform.

The tandem-seat Viper features all glass cockpits, updated electronics, digital moving maps, and advanced helmet mounted displays. The aircraft benefits from powerful new engines and four-blade composite rotor.

After finishing the MK-H7 and GRU-7, the J5D seat was also a Martin Baker seat and close enough to the other two, I decided a helicopter seat better represented Army aviation than the OV-1 seat, so the UH-1 seat came about.

This helicopter continues the stylish shape created by the original AH-1 Cobra during the Vietnam War years. The tail rotor assembly is port, not starboard on the original Cobra and successor Super Cobras.

AH-1Z Viper is the first attack helicopter to qualify both Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and Sidearm anti-radiation missiles. Both missiles can use the same LAU-7 rail launcher. Sidearm has a range of more than 15 km.
