You may see some info on the web that the first A/C transit bus was a NYMTA GM Old Look in 1956 but that is incorrect.

Sep 22, 2024 · ACF-Brill and CCF, though having similar names, were not affiliated prior to this licensing agreement. The first urban transit model was the C36 (36 passenger); 32 ft in length, with an underfloor amidships “laydown” Hall-Scott 477 cu in gas six cylinder engine.

At the end of the War General Motors couldn’t keep up with the demand for their highly-regarded diesel transit coaches to the benefit of the nation’s smaller bus manufacturers such as ACF-Brill.

The C-36 bus was one of ACF-Brill’s primary models. ACF-Brill sold 1,546 C-36 buses. In the 1950s, General Motors diesel engine buses took over most of the bus market, and ACF-Brill closed in 1954.

Jan 15, 2007 · I know where there is a junkyard in Wi. that has a 40's ACF Brill bus in it. It's super quasi-futuristic, someone made it into a camper at one time and now it just sits in the yard. Could probably get parts off of it if need be.

Feb 13, 2009 · Two models were offered; the C-36 (a 36 passenger as pictured) powered by a Hall Scott amidships pancake engine with a wheelbase of 198 ½ inches and weighing in at 12,000 lbs., and a 44 passenger version designated as the C-44 with identical specifications except for a slightly longer wheelbase.

Oct 22, 2017 · Did the C series have rear engines? Their transit models were the C-36 (the model in the post) and the C-44. Both of these had underfloor Hall-Scott engines. Their transit models C-27 and C-31 had rear mounted International engines.

American Car and Foundry C-36 was a 36 passenger transit bus. It was powered by a Hall-Scott gasoline engine mounted underfloor.

Mar 18, 2010 · Inter-City operated four ACF Model 37PB buses on their Mountain Division runs in the 50's. Signed up for the resort town of Loch Sheldrake in the Catskill Mountain area... These were bought used from Safeway Trailways.
