The ST Aerospace A-4SU Super Skyhawk is a major upgrade project of the Douglas A-4S Skyhawk attack aircraft undertaken by Singapore Aircraft Industries (SAI, now ST Aerospace) in the 1980s.

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a single-seat subsonic carrier-capable light attack aircraft designed and produced by the American aerospace manufacturer Douglas Aircraft Company, and later, McDonnell Douglas. It was originally designated A4D under the United States Navy 's pre-1962 designation system.

When complete, the A-4SU Super Skyhawk has a top speed of 700 mph, a range of up to 2,000 miles with three drop tanks installed, and an operating altitude of up to 40,000 feet. Five hardpoints allow for missiles, guided ordnance, ordnance and missile pods, and provide three locations for fuel tanks.

Oct 25, 2016 · 1972: The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) purchased 47 refurbished Skyhawks (40 A-4B and 7 A-4s for two seat conversion) from United States of America. The aircraft were re-designated A-4S for single seat and TA-4S for those single seat aircraft converted to two seat trainers.

It features a more powerful General Electric F404-GE-100D engine, advanced avionics, and improved weapon systems. With a maximum speed of 680 mph (1,095 km/h) and a range of 2,070 miles (3,332 km), the A-4SU is capable of various roles, including air defense, ground attack, and training missions.

These aircraft were overhauled and modified by Lockheed in the United States and Singapore where they emerged as A-4S (single-seat) and TA-4S (twin seat trainer), incorporating more than 100 changes to the standard A-4B airframes.
