Oct 19, 2024 · The Type 99A also called Type 99A2 or ZTZ-99A MBT (Main Battle Tank) is an improved version of the Type 99 MBT designed and manufactured in China by the local defense industry. The development of Type 99 started in 1999, and the tank entered service with the Chinese army in 2001.

The 125-III (DTC10-125) is the latest Chinese shell that only can be used by the modified cannons used in the 99A, WZ, and VT-4. The 125-II on the otherhand can be used in the 96’s (all), 99’s (all), MBT-2000, T-72’s, etc.

Three main versions of the Type 99 have been deployed: the Type 98 prototype, Type 99 and the Type 99A. The Type 99 forms the core of China’s modern maneuver combat capabilities, with over 1,300 tanks built for the past two decades. [2]

China is a licenced manufacturer of the 9M119M Refleks Anti-Tank Guided Missile. The Type 99A2 is capable of firing the Refleks through its main gun to a range of 5.5km and is guided via an integrated fire control unit in the main Fire Control System.

Only use it as an interim shell before APFSDS is unlocked. With 2.19 kg of explosive mass, it is sometimes capable of knocking out light targets like SPAAs and light tanks with overpressure damage, so keep an eye out for those.

Dec 8, 2024 · Smoke System: The ZTZ-99A tank uses Type 94 smoke grenade launchers, 5 on the left and 5 on the right in front of the tank, 10 in total. They can form an aerosol smoke barrier 50 to 80 meters away from the tank within 3 seconds.

The Type 99A is controlled by a steering wheel/yoke with stick-shift transmission capable of manual and automatic modes. The tank also uses gas and brake pedals similar to that of a standard motor vehicle.
