
92245 - Preserved British Steam Locomotives
92245 was built at Crewe in November 1958. Motive power depot allocations. It was withdrawn from service in December 1964 and sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers at Barry. It entered the scrapyard in March 1965 and became one of the Barry Ten. The Barry Ten were the last unsold locomotives at Woodham Brothers in 1990 when Dai Woodham retired.

Dec 22, 2024 · This operation took over 20 years, with many locomotives remaining in the yard into the 1980s, and as you can see here, at least two remain there today. These two appear to be BR #92245, a 9F Class 2-10-0 built at Swindon in 1959, and BR (ex-LMS) #44901, a Black 5 4-6-0 built at Crewe in 1945.

Dec 7, 2018 · The boiler of 9F 92245 has been sold to Jeremy Hosking of Locomotive Services and is now at LNWR Heritage at Crewe where its being overhauled for use as a spare boiler for sister 9F 92212 which is due for overhaul in June 2019.

Still relatively intact after a few months at Barry on 8 August 1965, 92245 would be one of the last locos to leave the area. 92245 was allocated to Bath Green Park (82F) to work heavy trains over the S&D in Summer 1962, the final year before through trains from the Midlands and North to Bournemouth were withdrawn from the route.

These very heavy trains, climbing a steady gradient, needed two locomotives, one pulling, the other banking at the rear. No.92245 was built at Crewe in November 1958 & spent several years at Cardiff (Canton) Depot before its tragically short working life ended in December 1964. Seen here on display at Bute Road with 80150 in front.
