Jun 5, 2010 · I currently reload my 338-06 A-Square with 30-06 Springfield brass. If I wanted a modern 8mm cartridge I would re-bore a 30-06 Springfield into a 8mm-06 because it just makes more sense. Easy reloading and less trimming, Ackley Improved cartridges grow less between firings, so an 8mm-06 Ackley Improved is a good choice. yooper77
8x57 vs. 8mm-06. Am I lucky or is this normal. - 24hourcampfire
Sep 27, 2009 · The sole reason for the 8mm-06's existence is the lack of 8x57 brass for several years after World War Two, and the sbundance of mil-surp .30-06 brass. So the boys ran a reamer into their war trophy 8x57's so they could shoot them. In a good rifle the 8x57 will do anything the .30-06 will do. Same deal with the 8mm-06.

Dec 5, 2017 · Re Chambering to 8mm-06 can greatly improve performance of a well worn 7.92 Model 98 Mauser even if the owner doesn't take full advantage of the larger capacity case. Extending the chamber and throat deeper into the barrel clears away eroded throats and freshens the origin of rifling.
Got my 8mm-06 dialed in with a great load - 24hourcampfire
Jul 5, 2020 · I researched the 8mm-06, 338-06, 35 Whelen and their AI counterparts. I settled on a plain old 338-06 and have not looked back. The 8mm got serious consideration, but the lack of bullet choices turned me off and never wanted to mess with the fireforming of …

Jul 23, 2003 · Thereafter, normal full-length resizing of the improved case is okay. That applies to handloaded 8mm-06 ammo too. 2. Your reloads are full-length sized too much and don't have enough chamber support. If you try sizinging your 8mm-06 case to give your reloads that critical "0.004" crush fit", your head separations will go away. HTH John

Nov 1, 2023 · Sorry for the late answer. Took the time to do some research (bought the P.O. Akley book) and reread/take in what you guys said. Looks like the basic idea is to approach this as a double wildcat. The first step would be to convert my brass to 8mm-06 and then fire form into the AI. I’ve annealed and run a couple test cases through the 8mm-06 dies.

Oct 6, 2008 · The 8mm-06 is still a popular round and with good reason. The only draw back is the bullet selection for the 8mm is very limited compared to 308 bullets. I have 4 loading books with modern data. Sierra Edition V 2nd Printing; Nosler 5th edition; Hornady 7th Edition; Speer 14th Edition all have loading data for it.
8mm-06 Improved - 24hourcampfire
Apr 10, 2012 · I sorta hastily bought an 8mm-06 Improved and am looking for dies. I'm not having any problem finding 8mm-06 dies and am wondering whether I can get away with simply using basic 8mm-06 dies to form 8mm-06 brass from the .30-06, and then fireform. I'd assume the 8mm seater die would work...

May 16, 2010 · The 8mm-06 came about so 8 x 57 rifles brought home by G.I's. could be easily rechambered to a common U.S. case. Yes, it is possible to rechamber with the barrel still on the action. You will need a reamer, tee handle for the reamer, cutting oil and go, no-go gauges.
