Apr 4, 2011 · Our HS does not report letter grades; only the percentage, so if my child’s GPA were 86, I would call it a 3.1. To convert all their grades into letter grades doesn’t acknowledge the gradations (sorry for the pun) in our system and would give a misleading number, on its own and within the context of the school for class ranking purposes.</p>

Jan 6, 2009 · <p>A 3.86 is a great GPA, but the 20-25% rank will hurt for Ivies/top LACs. Then again, the college class would help that situation. Many schools (esp. Ivies) look at applicants holistically, so a 3.86 will not shut you out. However, they’re also a crap shoot for everyone, so the chances of getting in aren’t great.</p>

If the rest of your application is better than that of someone with a 3.95, you stand a good chance of being accepted over them.</p>

Dec 2, 2010 · <p>Weighted GPA is much more revealing than unweighted. </p> <p>Neither matters for top 50 Unis and top 50 LACs… the adcoms and scholarship committees look at the whole transcript and evaluate each grade in each class according to the class’ difficulty.
