Dec 31, 2008 · 78 & up YZ 250's have the small crank nose, so they will accept the mid 80's and up YZ 80/85 systems / flywheels. 78 was the first year Yamaha came out with the small "shrunken" cased YZ250 engine.

Dec 31, 2008 · My current 100 has 38mm forks from a 1978 YZ250 and 1979 YZ400 shock with heavier Blue paint stripe spring. My favorite combination in the 1978 YZ125 chassis is 1980 YZ 125G forks (longer travel than 77-79 125) and 1980 IT425G rear shock (1" longer than 77/78 YZ125), and it had a remote reservoir already on that I left on there.

Dec 31, 2008 · Have used an 87 YZ 80 ignition on 78-79 YZ250's. 79 YZ 400 ignition on MX 360's. Turned down a DT 1 enduro flywheel and used the system (point) on a '75 MX400B. Used a 79 YZ250 system on an '88 YZ250. Late model MX100 system (CDI) on early MX100. Igntions are like the honey badger. They don't care where they are placed.
