The Boeing 747SP (for Special Performance) is a shortened version of the Boeing 747 wide-body airliner, designed for a longer range. It is the highest flying subsonic passenger airliner, with a service ceiling of 45,100 feet (13,700 m).

One of CAAC's small fleet of four 747SPs used on their Gatwick route. Later N135SW. Delivered new to CAAC as N1304E and re-registered B-2452 1st Jan 1988. Sold as N139SW 11th Nov 1999. Delivered new (To CAAC) as B-2444 26th June 1980 and re-registered 3rd June 1992. Returned to lessor as N136SW 3rd Dec 1999.

A ground crew member had realized that the aircraft’s nose wheel had passed the 747SP marking and was going to crash into the Jet bridge. The ground crew member ran into the terminal building but would soon feel the collision between the aircraft and the Jet Bridge.

Powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT9D, the aircraft has a maximum thrust of 48,750 lbf each engine. It can fly up to 45,100 feet, has a range of 6,650 nautical miles, and a cruise speed of 540 knots.
