Dec 28, 2018 · While the 6L6 family of tubes performs well in UL mode, it is not an optimum tube for that mode of operation due to the significant power loss displayed when employed -- but it was the best tube available at the time and still produced a significant amount of power output in that mode for that day.

Oct 27, 2024 · First, I learned that the 6L6 can be very low distortion in the SE-UL configuration, which was a pleasant surprise. Secondly, I realized that it can produce some reasonable power levels to satisfy those with a desire for such.

I cannot find much for the 6L6 in UL. A few, but nothing substantial. Assuming a B+ of ~350V in UL into a 6K A-A load, what kind if power would one expect? I'd like to run fixed bias and hope for around 30-40W. Thank you! Blair

Sep 4, 2019 · The 807 is a 6L6 with anode top connection. If you can source a good pair of output transformers with screen taps, you could recreate an original Williamson amplifier modified for Ultralinear operation. That's a classic using 6L6 type output tubes and 6SN7s.

Having performed the study of the 6L6 tubes in an SE-UL configuration, and seeing the excellent performance which could be achieved, I decided to put the data into a practical application. This amplifier is the result.

I'd picked a schematic to build, and lo and behold it's one of the earliest (if not the original) incarnations of Ultra-Linear topology, as invented by Hafler and Keroes of later Dynaco and Acrosound fame. I've got a matched quad of Sovs (the WXT+ kind), and matched pairs of Sov 6SN7GT's and 6SL7GT's.

Dec 30, 2010 · Look at the Peavey Classic VTX amp, it appears to be running ultralinear with a B+ of 525V on 6L6's. The maximum screen grid voltage for the el34 is listed as 425V, while for the 6L6 it's 450V, so, as long as you keep your B+ lower than that you should be ok.

Jun 26, 2010 · 6.6k load used for UL an quite often Triode, is the suggested load. Tubes are quite forgiving devices and running down to say 3k in UL would still give a 6L6 fighting chance to actually sound good in push pull circuit with decent feedback.
