Feb 19, 2018 · your 60mm might have not been f17, but even if it was a f13 which was very common, CA should have been quite controlled. I just picked up a classic meade refractor from craigs list. I have noticed that the diagonal, and eyepieces are not so good. maybe that is the origin of your abberations.

Sep 20, 2021 · It's Royal Astro of Japan made, just Tasco branded. The objective lens is pristine, and that's what's important. The worst parts are the EPs, etc. They're marked "H" or "HM" so I think they're old Huygens types, though they seem of decent quality for that. H20mm, HM12.5mm at least. The H6mm is perhaps ruined, and the kit Barlow rather "meh".

The objective is the classic Carton 60mm aperture 1000mm focal length achromat objectives. Given its focal length it is for all practical purposes a visual apochormat. Any color is minimal to difficult to find.

Aug 25, 2009 · I found I short review comparing a Carton 60mm f/7 (not 17) on scope reviews. It mentions Televue, but only due to its size being close to the TV Ranger. The one I found - by searching for "Carton 60mm f/17 telescope" - has a 0.965" focuser, though.

Let's start with the good news, the Yongnuo 17mm F1.7 is highly resistant to flare and ghosting. Shooting against strong sources of light, I do not see much flare or haze problem, images still look good without losing contrast and definition.
