Feb 20, 2020 · H-4831 is an accurate powder in 6.5-284 with the 140, velocity around 2950 fps in a 26" barrel. Retumbo should get you around 3100 to 3150 fps with good accuracy.

Oct 14, 2009 · The 6.5x284's that i have worked on have shot really well with the 140 VLDs. One is using 52.0 grains of H4831 SC, Win LR primers and .030" off the lands. Another is using 58.0 grain of Retumbo(the weighed charge from a round out of that one brand), CCI BR-2 primers, and .030" off the lands (.220" 3 shot group at 100 yards).

Mar 1, 2009 · The 6.5x284 is a super accurate rifle for long range hunting. I have used it for P-Dog hunting out to 1500 yards. The 6.5x284, with the right bullet, will easly take down an elk at 1000 yards.

Oct 23, 2018 · I've had several 284 based cases including 6.5x284. Currently have both 6.5x284 and 6.5 PRC in almost identical long action rifles with Benchmarks barrels 26". The PRC is about 100fps faster with my loads and has been a dream to load! Brass has been good! If building another it will be a PRC!

Oct 16, 2013 · I have the Berger reloading manual and found that their max loads using H4831sc is understated. Both my 6.5x284's and several other shooters I know have been able to use 53gr with no signs of pressure with the 140's seated at .1" out of the lands or less. Also, the 53 gr load should be used with LR primers, not magnum.

Jul 19, 2009 · capacity/bullet weight very much affect each other. A 24 inch barrel in a 6.5x284 will not deliver much in performance as far as fps. I think 28 to 30 inch is were your thoughts should be with it. The creedmoor , being based on a 22-250 case with a larger neck should do pretty well in a 24 inch. Dec 13, 2016 · I know there are a couple of you 6.5x284 guys on here that know your **** and could save me some wasted bullets in development. Gun is Christensen ridgeline, 26" barrel 1/8 twist. I can switch up powder and primers if need be but this is what I picked up to get started.
