Jul 11, 2018 · The 6.5 x 52mm Carcano uses .268" diameter bullet, not the .264" diameter that almost all other 6.5mm caliber firearms use. Using a .264" diameter bullet in the Carcano usually results in poor accuracy. Carcanos in general have gotten bad rap, but they are not bad weapons. They were well-made with good materials and machining.

As far as power, the .17 Ackley Hornet looks like a better way to go and a .17 Fireball even better still, and you can tweak your loads for accuracy for those two. If the factory ammo for a rimfire isn't accurate in your rifle, you're stuck.

It cant be topped off like other military rifles. (Just like the US M1 Garand) It is a sweet shooting 6.5mm.

My bad experiences were with .22 (twice), 9mm, and 12 Gauge. The .22s and the 12 ga. were nearly catastrophic failures, though.
