Sep 4, 2005 · RE: GMC and Chevy rearends differen Standard rear end for 55-59 GMC 1/2 ton pickups is the Spicer 45, which is definitely different than the Chevy rear end. Brake shoes are 11"x2", same as on the front of the GMC and I think same as the Chevy. All internal parts of the Spicer 45 are most likely different.

May 19, 2012 · The other engine is in a 53 Chevy and was installed in January, 1968, the code I could see was fuzzy and seems to read CON (can't make out the number) and then D148. which would be April, the first, and 1948. Jan 18, 2008 · 55-59 Chevy Truck Assembly Manual shows the single horn's two studs attached to a bracket assembly which is bolted to the top of the radiator upper tie bar using a single bolt and an external star lock washer. In the drawing it appears to be about two horn diameters in from the driver's side inner fender panel.
