Dec 2, 2014 · I agree with previous posts about unburnt powder residue with 5744. Having said that, it is an excellent cast powder, I use it for all my cast loads with bullet weights from 155gn to 205gn. I have also used Rel 7, which I find burns much cleaner than 5744 and also gives very good results. ukrifleman.

Mar 10, 2008 · XMP-5744 is fantastic cast boolit powder. I've used it for the past 10 years in 308 Win., 30-06, 7.5 Swiss, and 8mm Mauser. Very consistent velocities and excellent accuracy. When my current stash of surplus SR-4759 runs out and with no more available, the 5744 will be picking up that role as well. Try it , you will like it.

Jun 30, 2017 · 5744 works very well in heavy for caliber loads. It burns very dirty when using light for caliber bullets. Lots of different powders are less expensive than 5744. I like 4227, 2400, Unique and RL7. And yes, Cabela's-Bass Pro is an expensive place to buy powder. Gp

Feb 17, 2023 · The long range load for my C Sharps 45-70 is 27 grains of 5744 under a Lyman 457125 which weighs 525 in 20/1. My mold has been lapped to drop at .459". My Sharps likes boolits seated to touch the lands (2.95" LOA). 25-28 grains of 5744 should get you in the 1200-1300fps range. Just have to find the node for your rifle.

Feb 19, 2010 · If 5744 is the powder you want to use, then you have to learn to adapt your methods to conform with the powder. You need to encourage the powder to burn cleanly. Others have already mentioned most of the ways including crimp, boolit weight increase and increasing the charge. You can also use a dacron filler and a magum primer.

Dec 4, 2006 · Unique generates a lot higher pressure spike than slower powders, such as XMP 5744, so I can see why they would stop at 1,400 fps for Unique. Personally, although many loading manuals suggest using Unique in small rifle cartridges, I never use any powder faster than 2400 in vintage firearms in order to keep the max pressure spike down low.

Nov 8, 2011 · found the sheet. 50/70 load from accuate arms using C Sharps rifle and 5744 powder and a 425 grain lead bullet (30 grs 5744 powder) it corno's at 1419 FPS I would start with about 22 grains or like the man says use black powder. good luck GD
