May 8, 2008 · For some reason the whole paisley tele bass with pickup/bridge covers gets me hot. I can tell a difference in paisley pattern between 68 and the reissues of the 80's and 2002/3. New Fender pickups in my expirence can be pretty weak so I would be looking for the most full bodied tone that could be had.

Feb 1, 2005 · I can get growl or sweet P bass lows with lots of thump from my 51P RI depending on the attack and the strings I use (presently using DR High Beams and love them. Great sustain. I do EQ it with emphasis on the low end and use the bass's tone control anywhere from mid to full. Great tonal pallate of sounds.

Nov 23, 2021 · The 51 version of the P bass, due to its pole pieces being right under the strings, has a very different attack/thump character than the later split coil version. Even if you know what works best for you with a split coil in terms of pickup height, that's not really applicable to the single coil version.

Aug 31, 2008 · Lindy Fralin P Bass normal wind - a perfect P bass sound. The main difference I notice between the SPB-1 and Fralin normal wound pickups is the SPB-1 has slightly less lows with more highs, the upper mids are brighter. The SPB-1 has a throaty tone that cuts through. The Fralin pickups, to my ears, create the perfect P bass sound.

Apr 13, 2005 · 1. CIJ 51 P Bass pentiometers must be minis. What I ordered didn’t fit. 2. To compound problem before I noticed they were too big I drilled out the control plate to fit larger shaft. Now trying to avoid mistake number 3 will Fralin stacked 51 pick ups fit the CIJ routed slot?

Nov 8, 2020 · Much fatter lows, perfectly balanced from top to bottom, excellent clarity. I haven't done a head-to-head comparison but it feels kinda like a P-bass to me now. More so than a Mustang bass or any stock Bronco/Musicmaster I've played. Strangely it think it sounds more like a SPLIT coils P than a single coil P, even though it's a single coil pickup.

Oct 15, 2011 · In Fender's Bass Guitar Setup Guide, it is stated that the bass side should measure 2.8mm and the treble side should measure 2mm. Bill Lawrence says 1 nickle touching the string to pickup on the high E and 2 nickles touching the string to pickup on the low E. Many others say just use your ear.
