Jun 5, 2014 · I currently have a Hawken style muzzle loader in .45 cal however I am now going to go with a 50 Cal Kentucky rifle. The choice of size of the round ball are .490 and .495. My question is, which is the best size to use considering the lubed patch? Thanks for you time.

With barrels of 33 - 35 inches 1-72 works well with custom barrels and larger charges of 3F ... I had a 1-79 Twist in a custom barreled 50 caliber that loved 200 grains of 3F under the Ball ....

Dec 14, 2020 · Other than a bit of morbid curiosity, those the load for .50 cal, is the base of a .50 cal similar in size to that of a 12 gauge? Would they have been using a 20 gauge. Is a .50 cal base even remotely close to the base of a shotgun round? How would they get it to fire if the bases were not similar in dimension?

Jun 11, 2019 · My NIB Uberti 1861 Navy, manufactured 1969, has cylinder chambers at .377". Hornady swaged round ball, .375" diameter, drops straight to bottom of chamber. Chamber mouths are slightly "chamferred". Looks like the factory used a course grinding ball, instead of a cutter on the chamfer. Diameters measured via ball gauge and caliper.

Feb 24, 2025 · .451 Ball works very well in Pietta Cap Guns. Shaves a nice little lead ring and seals the chamber nicely. .454 for Uberti and .457 for Ruger are also the correct choices for good performance. You can, of course, run .454 ball in Pietta but it is a bunch of extra work to load and adds stress to the loading rammer.

Mar 2, 2017 · I was curious after a friend gave me some .45 caliber round balls. I loaded 2 of the .451 diameter round balls in a .45 Colt case using a low end powder load. Nov 17, 2021 · I had a weaker-framed revolver so I kept my loads very weak but still enough to bark and punch paper. It is a whole 'nother world to explore now that I know what to do. If you have the money RCC brass will make any brass you need but you have to buy a minimum of 50. I was so far down the rabbit hole on this one I had to stop the bleeding somewhere.
