Jun 21, 2020 · If you want a 5.56 gun, get an AR or some Western military rifle. 5.56 AKs are known to have issues. The Soviets didn't merely just take the 7.62x39 AK and downsize it to 5.45. They spent some R&D into marrying the AK with the 5.45.

Apr 4, 2011 · End result was, only standard AR Mag that seemed to work reasonably well stuffed with 5.45 (28 rounds was max) was the premium, hand crafted by unicorns in the rain forest, HK AR Mags. If my memory is correct, the straight magazines were a dismal failure, with only a couple of rounds, or three at most, being able to feed/fire before jamming up.

Jun 30, 2017 · Saw the Windham MCS thread in GD and it made me wonder, does an AR lower that takes AK-74 mags exist? I'm seeing more and more 7.62x39 AR's that take -47 mags, and I want one that takes -74 mags because my S&W 5.45 upper is hit or miss with the 5.45 AR mags. I have a bunch labeled as "no-go" and it's pretty annoying.

Feb 11, 2020 · But yeah, you're probably better off just getting a cheap plinker 5.56 upper and shooting crap like Tulammo out of it. It'd probably work better too. I don't think any company managed to figure out how to make a 5.45x39 AR run right before the fad passed and cheap surplus was no longer as cheap and available.

Feb 29, 2020 · As many mentioned, the offering for 5.45 barrels and bolts are not as available as they once were. I have a number of AR rifles in that caliber that work flawlessly. A few are original S&W uppers and the others I put together with S&W parts, many that I purchased in the EE sales on this site. I use mostly C-Products magazines and a few Unimags.

Jan 26, 2018 · I used to own a Huldra Arms (Adams Arms) 5.45 piston upper for my AR, right before 7N6 ammo was banned for import. I've since sold most of the piston parts, but I kept the barrel. Recently I decided to revive the caliber and do a DI gas upper with it.

Aug 5, 2021 · 5.45 has a much more pronounced case taper compared to 5.56 and it doesn't feed as well through an AR magwell. Look at AK74 magazines, they have the same banana look as AK47 though a little less pronounced.

Feb 22, 2014 · I exchanged emails with them (and a few other companies) asking if they had any interest in taking a huge share of the upcoming 5.45 AR future and they just blew me off. Their interest in 2009 seemed to be less than zero, so I bought a bunch of the C-products 5.45 mags- which worked well (I was one of the lucky ones).
