Apr 2, 2005 · I can't seem to figure out why my indicator for the 4WD stays on even when its not in 4X4. Would a vacuum leak in the 4WD system cause the indicator lamp to stay on. Can't find much in the Chiltons manual. CWH ps I added a CAT converter (previous owner removed) and a flowmaster and the vehicle idles and sounds much better. Still seems like it may have a vaccum leak, hence the above question.

You can jack up the front end in 2wd with the fork locked and turn one wheel and the other should turn the opposite direction. Now lock it in 4wd. If you can turn the driveshaft in 4wd then you have a transfer case issue which is what it sounds like.

Nov 4, 2009 · or, if you have a way to jack the jeep up and get all 4 wheels off the ground, you can put it in 4wd, and let it idle, and see if all 4 wheels spin. if the do not spin, and the front axle disconnect is working properly (like you mentioned), then there could be an issue with the T-case.
