You can verify this by seeing if the cartridge supports the DS family of consoles (DS / DS lite / DSi). If it does, then it is a DS-mode flashcart.

Aug 17, 2017 · You don't need a 3DS flashcart to install CFW. If you are on an older firmware, you can do it without any extra hardware at all. If you are on certain newer firmware, you need a regular DS flashcart with ntrboot. http://3ds.guide
