Ruger LCR .38 vs 9mm - Defensive Carry
Jan 11, 2015 · The reason I might go with 9mm over the .38 Special +P or .357 magnum is that the 9mm is much more efficient than the .357 from the short barrel. Don't get me wrong, the .357 is more powerful, but the 9mm loses less velocity. The chrono testing I saw for the 9mm LCR was giving velocities about equal to a 3"-barrel semiauto.

Mar 20, 2011 · The question here is a problem because 9mm and .38 spl are not choices you make in isolation. In general, these rounds divide the two platforms - semi-auto and revolver. If you are going with a revolver, 9mm isn't an option. If you're carrying an autoloader, then .38 spl isn't on your shopping list.

32 H&R Magnum just as good as 38 Special? - Defensive Carry
Sep 23, 2016 · My seat of the pants feeling is that it would fall somewhere between a .380 and a standard 9mm (not +P). Also bonded projectiles play a big factor especially in the smaller calibers. I see the potential advantage if the .327/ .32 mag is a 6 shot revolver vs. the traditional 5 shot J …

Apr 27, 2015 · The .38 Special began life as a black powder cartridge and operates at about half the internal pressure (~ 17,000 psi) that the 9mm generates. The 9mm was designed around the use of smokeless powder which requires lots less volume to achieve its design pressure.
327 Federal vs 38 Plus P - Defensive Carry
Feb 7, 2011 · bmcgilvray's impressive work (above) with the .38 cartridge notwithstanding, the .327 still seems to me to be a step up from the .38 when limiting the field to off-the-shelf loads. That aside, I still take some comfort in that extra round in the cylinder, though I do admit that may be based more on emotion than analysis.

Dec 5, 2018 · Also, its lineage, like the .38, goes back to the black powder era. If .327 came in 8 round and more than just one brand of lever action, it would be more like the .357. The 9mm is so popular because it fills the 300-400 foot-pound area more optimum for short barrel pocket guns. The .327 lives in that muzzle energy range, too.

38 Super vs 45ACP? | Defensive Carry
Nov 16, 2016 · My Ruger 9mm is tamer than my old DW .38 Super. That said. Load selection goes a long ways in recoil reduction with any caliber. The Guardian is a good buy if less than $1,600 in 2016 dollars. They will probably go up 10-14% in Jan so jump on one soon. I did find that both 9mm and .45 ACP were cheaper to buy than .38 Super.
