Jan 1, 2011 · In terms of 38+P vs 357. If you are talking standard factory loads then you may not notice much difference as Magnums have been watered down (legal reasons I beleive) over the years. However if you are talking 38+P vs 'full-house' Magnums - Double-tap, Buffalo Bore, Corbon or handloads then you will notice a huge difference at both ends.

Jul 2, 2020 · I normally carry my 357 revolvers with 38+P. It's easier to control and won't over penetrate. I also like the 44 Spl and sometimes conceal my Alaskan Redhawk loaded with those rounds. I feel they are all capable of stopping a threat, even the 38 Spl. Modern SD ammunition has been designed to expand and mushroom out to impressive size.

Oct 28, 2021 · The 3 inch LCRx is going to be the softest shooting of the three pistols mentioned and most versatile. It'll be pretty rough shooting 357 mag loads through the gun but not impossible. It'll be much more fun to shoot at the range and you'll get better velocity out of both your 38+P and .357 rounds.

Now, for those who say firing .357 mag ammo in such a small revolver is too much. I say you should try this revolver before you come to any such conclusions. The Hogue grips are awesome.

Dec 22, 2009 · Shooting .38's from a .357 will lengthen, not shorten, the life of a revolver. A good example of this is: The Smith & Wesson Model 19 is a .357 which was made for practicing with .38 Specials, but using .357 magnums for use while on duty. I would advise ignoring "the man behind the counter" on anything he says.

Dec 30, 2008 · Quite simply, the .357 is built to withstand the higher pressures of that caliber, but because the .38 Special is [just about] the same diameter (the .357 is longer), a .357 will also shoot a .38 Special; many shooters like the options of having the higher power .357, while also being able to shoot the cheaper and mellower .38 Special.

Mar 7, 2019 · DELBERT935, Nothing says you have to load higher velocity loads in a 357 Mag case. You can use 38 Special load data and produce the same velocity as in a 38 Special case. Because 357 cases have larger internal volume than 38 Special cases, it takes an extra couple tenths of a grain of powder to achieve the same velocity.
