Mar 25, 2006 · But last time I checked, the actual recoil of a .308 150 grain and a 12 ga. 2 3/4 dram 1 1/8 oz skeet or trap load in a 7 lb. gun was about the same. (About 17 foot pounds) Yeah, a hi-velocity bullet leaving the barrel at about Mach 3 is going to give some noise (a sonic boom in reality), and it affects pleasurable shooting.
.308 Vs. 12 Gauge | Page 2 | Shotgun Forum
Aug 24, 2003 · Any gun fired from a standing position kicks less than if it was fired from a bench. I kind of doubt a 308 kicks more when shot from the same position as the shotgun. I just bought a Spartan 12 over .308 but I really doubt I will shoot the shotgun barrel from a bench.

Jan 31, 2012 · +1 on the M-70. I'd personally get .308. It's more economical for me. If you want a Heavy Barrel, I'd also consider the Remington 700's. They make some great and nice looking guns. Savage makes a great gun for the money, and most are light, but at that configuration, I'd get the Ruger Scout. For a scope, I'd start off with a Nikon or a Leupold.
