Sep 29, 2021 · Get rid of the 2 pole breaker and replace it with a single pole 20 amp breaker and turn one of the wires into a neutral (with white electrical tape wrapped around both ends). Replace the 230v outlet with a normal double 115v jobbie, rewire your pump and put a normal plug end on it, and Bob's your uncle.

Oct 13, 2010 · I inherited a Sears air compressor 2HP 20 Gal. It has a plug on the end with a sideways prong. Some quick googling showed that it is a 20 amp plug correct? On the compressor itself it says that this model runs at 230V ONLY! I'm sure the outlets at my house won't run that. HOWEVER, this house was previously owned by an electrician.

I also hear the exact same thing called 240V) This is the diagram on how to wire it (the transformer goes into an adapter, and then the adapter goes to the thermostat, I just don't know which wires to use on the transformer):

Jul 18, 2014 · NONE of this suggest the need for a neutral. That would be conveyed in the voltage area. It would say something like 120/240, or 120/208. Since the label says single-phase 208/230 it means it requires two hots legs and NO neutral. A 3-phase A/C unit rated @ 230v would only require 3 conductors and a ground. –

Where I live, all outlets in a home are 230V, 50Hz, single phase, earthed, switched and have a common physical outlet design. In some homes you may find one ungrounded shaver socket with a different design. In a very very few of the homes built before 1947 and which have never been rewired, you may instead find two types of older design of outlet.
