Apr 22, 2010 · Each brand (and sometimes flavor in each brand) makes a different amount of batter. When the boxes say they make 9" cake, that isn't necessarily a 2" tall cake. I always go by batter amount instead of what the box says. I use DH and add a box of pudding to it with an extra egg and get 5-1/2 to 6 cups out of the flavors I use.

Oct 13, 2006 · Put your cake in a regular cake box and fasten the lid so that the lid won't close on the top of the cake, then tape plastic wrap around the open side of the box. Alternatively, you can use a packing box that's been cut open on one side. Slide the cake in and then tape the side of the box so that it's closed. Deanna

Jul 9, 2012 · The standard cake boxes just don't have the height. Usually I'm doing a 2 tiered cake, and have been using regular card board boxes that I find at the grocery store. Do they make a cake box for tiered cakes? I received a comment from a client that the cake 'smelled like the box'. 1st time I had heard that one, but don't want it to happen again.

Jan 29, 2010 · The top tier had a piece of carboard box cut to size and wrapped in wax paper. I used regular drinking straws cut to the height of the bottom tier and placed them in the shape of an X with one in the middle, dead center. A BBQ skewer meant for grilling went through my entire cake, through the two cardboards. I just clipped off the extra up top.

Aug 2, 2007 · Is there a chart somewhere that will tell you depending on your size cake pan, how many boxed cake mixes it will hold? I sure could use one. I have a 14 1/2 x 3 round cake pan and a 12 1/2 x 3 round cake pan that I need to know how many boxed cakes it will take to fill.

Jul 20, 2008 · The boxes we use in the UK are about 5" high but when doing a 2 tier cake, I extend them by using thick card bent in 2 and then stapled on the corners so it adds height to the sides - useful if you have cakes with wires sticking up too!!
