Apr 22, 2010 · Each brand (and sometimes flavor in each brand) makes a different amount of batter. When the boxes say they make 9" cake, that isn't necessarily a 2" tall cake. I always go by batter amount instead of what the box says. I use DH and add a box of pudding to it with an extra egg and get 5-1/2 to 6 cups out of the flavors I use.

Do they make a cake box for tiered cakes? I received a comment from a client that the cake 'smelled like the box'. 1st time I had heard that one, but don't want it to happen again.

Jan 29, 2010 · The top tier had a piece of carboard box cut to size and wrapped in wax paper. I used regular drinking straws cut to the height of the bottom tier and placed them in the shape of an X with one in the middle, dead center. A BBQ skewer meant for grilling went through my entire cake, through the two cardboards. I just clipped off the extra up top.

Jul 20, 2008 · The boxes we use in the UK are about 5" high but when doing a 2 tier cake, I extend them by using thick card bent in 2 and then stapled on the corners so it adds height to the sides - useful if you have cakes with wires sticking up too!!
