2 or 4 RAM sticks on a DUAL Channel Mobo? - Level1Techs Forums
Aug 10, 2019 · Hi Rockyy, In the scenario that you presented my thought would be to go with just two sticks. You may run into some frustrations trying to match up a single stick to the rest of what you have. 2 vs. 4 for performance eh, there are a lot of variables in play for that, mem topology used on the board, the quality of the IMC on the CPU, are your sticks dual rank or single rank… TLDR; Generally ...
DDR5 4 dimms on am5 -- what's working, what's not?
May 16, 2023 · Are you running 4 dimms on the AM5 platform? What about LGA1700? Post a pic and details of your setup! Background I’ve been testing the new VSOC/agesa changes from AMD and 48gb dimm support. I am happy to report 96gb @ DDR5-6000 (2x48gb) is working great! I’ll have a video about that soon. I’ve been trying a lot of mixed (and non-mixed) configs of 4 DDR5 dimms and it seems to be the case ...

Sep 21, 2022 · 4 sticks are sort of “hard to drive” which is why there is a decreas in speed rating for 4 DIMMs. The only way to know is to try and see if you memory controller can handle 4 DIMMs. 2 sticks will be safer.
Advise with issues on a new system: Ryzen 9900x and Asus X870p
Feb 26, 2025 · Hey all, I am back on AMD for the first time since having an Athlon XP 2200+ and am looking for some advise with my new system. Nov 12, 2024 · Particularly, if your sticks are dual rank, that puts an imense strain on the memory controller. You will always see a downclock to about 3600. The rule of thumb with DDR5 (until CUDIMM becomes a thing) is Intel only supports 2 sticks. If you want to do 8000mt, then only use 2 sticks. If you want to do 4 sticks of 6000mt, use single rank dimms.

AM5 DDR5 4 DIMM Dual Rank 128GB Hynix Die doubts
Nov 18, 2024 · You will not get 4 sticks of DDR5 past DDR5 3600. not 6000, not 5600, not 5200, and probably not 4800. You will get 3600 speeds. If you want DDR5 at 6000 and CL30 you will need 2 sticks of RAM. And probably a max of 64GB as the 48GB sticks don’t want to hit 6000 whatevers either.

May 1, 2024 · I would’ve guessed it’s XMP training due to the speed and capacity of the kit, but that has been ruled out if I red through the thread right. @greatnull My 3700X with XMP off, undervolt, 2x16GB sticks, X570 chipset and 2 NVME drives reports 15.5s last BIOS time in Windows. I think it doesn’t get much better than that.
