Oct 21, 2015 · My 2nd gen i5 Dell desktop computer (i5-2310 CPU, H61 chipset) is spec'd by Dell to support DDR3 memory up to 4 GB / stick, either 1Rx8 or 2Rx8. But it actually works fine with 8 GB DIMMs, if they're 2Rx8. 8 GB 1Rx8 DIMMs will not work. I do recommend running a memory test after RAM upgrades, though.

Two sticks are 1GB ea and 1Rx8, 1 stick is 1GB, 2Rx8 and 1 stick is 512mg, 1Rx8. My Dell Inspiron 530 allows mixing of one-sided and two-sided memory sticks, which is what the 1R and 2R designation means.

May 2, 2013 · the 1r and 2r stands for single and double rank. this means there are ram chips on just one side or both sides of the stick. in general the more ram sticks you put in, the slower the speed the mobo can support. but a single set of 2 sticks is rarely an issue. issues start to show up normally with 4 sticks.
