The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), also known by the initial Canadian designation C1, or in the U.S. as the "inch pattern" FAL, is a British version of the Belgian FN FAL battle rifle.

The FAL (French: Fusil Automatique Léger, English: Light Automatic Rifle) is a battle rifle designed in Belgium by Dieudonné Saive and manufactured by FN Herstal and others since 1953. During the Cold War the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), with the notable exception of the United States.

Jan 4, 2009 · The C2A1 is a squad auto version of the FAL, with a built in full auto function, as well as a heavier, longer barrel, and a bipod that folds into up to become the front handguard. The C2A1 also uses a rear sight mounted on the top cover, not the lower receiver.

ARS carries a wide variety of spare and replacement parts for the FAL and L1A1 rifles. Federal regulations require 7 US parts from a list of 20 major components. The 1994 moratorium on “assault weapon” manufacture has expired.

The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, often dubbed the "British FAL," holds a significant place in the history of small arms, particularly within the military institutions of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, among others.
