Feb 3, 2023 · An actual somewhat answer: It's kind of all over the place right now. 17E used to be E5 and above, you had to transfer in, and primarily the individuals selected assisted units in setting up ew equipment during training and deployments, and at some units and echelons they helped coordinate for EW support from other branches or coalition members.

May 27, 2022 · TLDR: Just get a signal MOS because you will be in AIT for a shorter period of time and not waste a considerable amount of money for 0 return. Also, a relevant degree, signal MOS, and performance should get you a signal officer slot easily.

Previous instructor at the 17E schoolhouse here. As mentioned, 17E is NOT an IT MOS, however you have the potential to gain a tad of IT knowledge. It is an Electronic Warfare specialist MOS, so you will be dealing with the electromagnetic spectrum and RF technology.

I suggest you look into the MOS as much as you can, the Google won’t tell you a whole lot, and even though we’re “cyber”, don’t expect to do a contract and get out making 120+ like the 17C guys often do. We are cyber, but not really at all, nor are we intel, but you will possibly work with SIGINT guys a lot.
