A huge Oxford Pound weighing approximately two ounces of silver , twice the weight of the Cartwheel Twopence and a larger diameter of 54 mm compared to the 41 mm of the 1797 coin. Jul 15, 2008 · George Washington 1797 Coin I have a coin I got from my Grandfather's estate after he died. It is identical on both sides. It's a side profile of Washington. Across the top it says "1789 1st President U.S.A. 1797" and across the bottom it says "George Washington". The other side is identical to the first but you cant see George or the date well.

Jul 18, 2018 · 1 1999 wide, 1 copper 1982 small date no mint, 1 zinc 1982 small date no mind, 1 zinc small date with mint, and 1 copper 1982 with only the upper half of the 2 showing and the bottom half is none existent... letters are suspect to being the 1982 everybody wants. but, half a number does not make it legible enough to claim it to be it.

Each coin contained an (Av) ounce of near-pure .999 copper. Thus we know copper was worth a penny an ounce in 1797.
