The 155 mm gun M1 was a 155 millimeter caliber field gun developed and used by the United States military. Nicknamed "Long Tom" (an appellation with a long and storied history in U.S. field and naval artillery), it was produced in M1 and M2 variants, later known as the M59.

The M1918A1 saw action in the early phases of WW2 but when the more modern 155mm M1A1 Gun came into use in 1942 it was gradually used as a coastal Gun and was deployed in this role in the Pacific theatre until 1945.

The M1A1 “Long Tom” became the standard Corps Gun both the Army and Marines and remained virtually unchanged except for the M2 having a simpler breech ring installed. It went on to serve well after WW2 as the M59 Gun.
