The 14.5×114mm (.57 calibre) is a heavy machine gun and anti-materiel rifle cartridge used by the Soviet Union, the former Warsaw Pact, modern Russia, and other countries.

It is one of the most powerful machine guns ever used by the Soviet and later Russian armed forces. The development of the machine gun began in 1944. The 14.5×114mm M41 cartridge can be used with high explosive incendiary - tracer (HEI-T) or armor-piercing incendiary (API) bullets.

The KPV is so far the most powerful machinegun ever manufactured in quantity, having about twice muzzle energy of 12.7mm machine guns. The KPV is a short recoil operated, locked breech weapon.

It must be noted that until very recently (when Chinese have introduced their indigenous 14,5×115 heavy machine gun) KPVT was the most powerful heavy machine gun in its class, providing almost double muzzle energy compared to 12,7mm / .50 caliber weapons.
