The azhwars are nitya-suris or eternal residents of Sri Vaikuntam or the eternal spiritual abode of Sriman Narayana. They were not ordinary mortals but the incarnations of different weapons, limbs or eternal associates of the Supreme Lord Narayana.

They experienced the Ultimate Reality in and through everything that they saw in the world of existence and poured their love and adoration for Him into beautiful poetry.

The AZHWARS (Tamil: ஆழ்வார்கள் those immersed in god’) were Tamil poet saints of south India who lived between the sixth and ninth centuries A.D. and espoused ‘emotional devotion’ or bhakti to lord narayana in their songs of longing, ecstasy and service.

These Alwars are 12 in Number and out of which one is Sri Andal in the only Female Alwar. These Alwars were born in various parts of our country but they were all united in a common subject, ie dedicating their lives and praising the Lord.
