The Zoantharia are an order of Hexacorallia most closely related to the sea anemones (Actiniaria) (Kayal et al. 2013). They are found in most marine ecosystems. Despite their cosmopolitan distribution and high frequency in many ecosystems, compared to both Actiniaria and Scleractinia, research on this order has been relatively scant.
