Jan 1, 2001 · A single government is hereby created which replaces and supersedes the governments of the Town of Hartsville and of Trousdale County. The name of the new Consolidated Government shall be The Hartsville/Trousdale County Government.

Founded in 1870, Trousdale County is the smallest county in Tennessee, and one of only 3 metropolitan counties in Tennessee. On January 1, 2001, the governments of Trousdale County and the Town of Hartsville merged to form the Hartsville/Trousdale County Government.

The County Attorney serves as legal counsel to the County Government and provides advice to the County Mayor and County Commission. The duties of the position include reviewing proposed resolutions and Ordinances, contracts, leases, and representing the County Government in court.

Duties of the office range from being secretary to the County Commission, taking and maintaining the official minutes which are available for public viewing, to conducting a great deal of the State’s taxation duties within the County.
