SWAT personnel assist in the department’s response to unusual and high-risk tactical situations. The members have primary assignments from virtually all sections within the department and come together for training and operations.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Special Operations Division is tasked with assisting all departmental components with police specialized traffic, tactical, and planning services. The division is composed of five major sections. 615-862-7755.

All Special Operations section members are trained in the special weapons and tactics (S.W.A.T.) discipline. Their duties consist of conducting high-risk search/arrest warrant service, resolving barricaded and hostage incidents, and providing security for foreign and domestic dignitaries.
