The Abbasid Caliphate or Abbasid Empire (/ əˈbæsɪd, ˈæbəsɪd /; Arabic: الْخِلَافَة الْعَبَّاسِيَّة, romanized: al-Khilāfa al-ʿAbbāsiyya) was the third caliphate to succeed the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
