Coweta County Fire Rescue escorted home the body of a beloved fire battalion chief who died in an Alabama shooting.

Coweta County Fire Battalion Chief James Bartholomew "Bart" Cauthen was shot and killed in Alabama trying to help a driver who'd hit a deer.

Authorities said Cauthen was trying to assist individuals that had hit a deer when a nearby resident opened fire on them. He died from injuries.

BART service has stopped between North Concord/Martinez and Antioch and passengers were advised to seek alternate transportation for service between Antioch and North Concord/Martinez stations.
