Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is pushing to raise sports betting taxes again. In his 2026-27 budget, DeWine proposed doubling the Ohio sports betting tax rate to 40% from 20%. In his budget in 2023, DeWine doubled the tax rate to 20% from 10% .

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine suggested increasing the state's sports betting tax rate from 20% to 40% would yield $130-$180 million annually.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's proposed $218 billion state budget would fully fund public education, make marijuana more expensive and would raise taxes on sports betting companies to help fund projects.

DeWine is calling on the legislature to double the tax rate that those operating Ohio's sports book pay on their profits after all winnings are paid.
