Plumes of smoke rose from southern New Jersey on Saturday afternoon, as a wildfire blazed on the other side of the Delaware River.

Firefighters were able to keep a windswept wildfire from reaching the heart of Fort Mott State Park in Salem County over the weekend.

Wawa closed its 24-hour location at 901 South St. and its corner store at 13th and Chestnut streets in 2021 due to operational challenges. Its spots at 12th and Market streets and 19th and Market streets shuttered in the fall of 2022 because of "continued safety and security challenges and business factors."

Philip Fitzgerald, the nonprofit organization’s new chief impact officer, will focus on economic mobility, community safety and youth development.
