To most of us, a weapons technician with the Canadian Special Operations Regiment doesn’t scream soap-making, but that’s exactly what Alexis Sapera is doing.

“The yam is a climber,” says Eric Owusu Danquah, a research scientist at Ghana’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSOR), “it has to climb to expose its leaves to the sunlight.
