President Donald Trump may have delayed most – though not all – of the tariffs he had imposed on Canada and Mexico, but that hasn’t stopped America’s northern neighbors from responding forcefully in retaliation.

Ontario’s premier, the leader of Canada’s most populous province, is now charging 25% more for electricity shipped to 1.5 million Americans.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the province is putting a 25 per cent surcharge on all of its U.S.-bound electricity as retaliation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s persistent tariff threats.

But Trump announced time was up on March 3, and the tariffs went into effect overnight. Stock markets slipped, Canada ordered reciprocal tariffs, and by Thursday, Trump gave another 30-day extension to goods covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which applies to approximately 38% of imports from Canada.

President Donald Trump said he will double the tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum imported from Canada after the province of Ontario announced surcharges on electricity going into New York, Minnesota and Michigan.
