People in Skegness have described being "moved to tears" after debris was found on a large stretch of the beach following a crash involving two ships. The impact between an oil tanker and cargo vessel Solong in the North Sea, off East Yorkshire, on 10 March, triggered an explosion and fires, which have been extinguished.

The devastating sight of burnt debris from one of the two ships that collided in the North Sea has been washed up along the Skegness coast after hopes pollution might not be as bad as initially feared.

A port official said he was told the North Sea collision produced "a massive fireball" and the cargo ship's owner said one crew member was missing.
