The leader of a small group of self-described satanists and three other people were arrested Friday following a scuffle inside the Kansas Statehouse arising from an effort by the group’s leader to start a Black Mass in the rotunda.

A leader of a "nondenominational Satanic church" in Kansas and three others were arrested after a fight broke out between Satanists and Christians at the Kansas Statehouse in Topeka.

Michael Stewart, president of the Satanic Grotto from the Kansas City area, was arrested during a Black Mass protest. Stewart, along with two other members, Jocelyn Frazee and Sean Anderson, faced charges of unlawful assembly. The controversy surrounding the event marked a confrontation between religious freedom advocacy and state response.
