An Oregon couple wearing fake firefighter gear and driving a fire truck they purchased at an auction was arrested and charged after authorities stopped them from sneaking into a Palisades Fire evacuation zone.

The Oregon couple who allegedly tried to sneak into a Palisades Fire evacuation zone while impersonating firefighters are facing charges and potential jail time, according to prosecutors.

Dustin and Jennifer Nehl were arrested last weekend after police said they were caught trying to enter the Palisades Fire evacuation zone dressed as firefighters.

The Douglas County strike team, assigned to extinguish hotspots in the Palisades neighborhood on the western edge of Los Angeles, made its way through deserted streets. The team – part of the 370 firefighters sent from every corner of Oregon to California – didn’t know what to expect, having driven down in their rigs from Oregon the night before.

A couple from Oregon has been charged with impersonating Los Angeles County firefighters while trying to enter a wildfire evacuation zone in Malibu, prosecutors said Friday.
