Type 5 diabetes, commonly known as MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young), is a rare but significant form of diabetes.

Dr Thomas added that Type 5 should not be confused with MODY-5 (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young or HN1beta mutations), which is a separate monogenic, autosomal dominant group of disorders.
