A wooden paddle, one of a pair, dating from the 19th century. Maori canoe paddles were often elaborately carved. The paddles are displayed in the Boyd Dawkins Study at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
This Maori knife is thought to have been collected on one of Captain Cook's voyages during the 18th century. Many Maori woodcarvings were treasured objects that became precious and sacred heirlooms.
