SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Green Alliance announce the beginning of the application period for the Illinois Green Ribbon Schools Award.

Since 1999, the Putnam Valley High School and Middle School have been powered by geothermal systems resulting in savings of $13 million or four million gallons of heating oil during the past 25 years.
