Jittery investors flocked to safe-haven assets on Thursday and pushed gold to a record high after U.S. President Donald Trump unleashed more aggressive-than-expected import tariffs, kicking into higher gear an already heated global trade war.

On Tuesday, gold surged by Rs 2,000 to hit its highest level in two months to settle at Rs 94,150 per 10 grams. Today, (April 2), gold was trading at Rs 90,920 for 10 grams. But will gold scale the 1 lakh level soon?

Gold moved further away from its latest record high, swept up in the anxiety about the impact of a global trade war in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s more-aggressive-than-expected tariff agenda.
